Gemini Pendant – Castor

General Notes

Positioned like sentries on the podium surrounding the Palazzo Della Civilta Italiana are statues of Castor and Pollux, each accompanied by his horse. In Greek mythology, Gemini (Dioscuri in Roman mythology) refers to the twins Castor and Pollux who shared a mother but were fathered by Tyndareus and Zeus, respectively. After the mortal, Castor’s death, his divine brother, Pollux pled with his father Zeus to share his immortality with his deceased brother. As part of that deal, they spent half their time in Hades and the other half  on Mt. Olympus, united in the heavens as the constellation Gemini.

51 light years away and the brightest stars in the Gemini Constellation, Castor appears lighter in the sky than his closer sibling. We’ve translated this story into a set of twin pendants. This narrow version of the pendant is a bit more delicate than its brother, the Pollux Pendant. Like all of our pieces, it is perfectly unisex and can be worn as part of one’s daily uniform.

The central stone of this pendant is aventurine, a form of quartz most often green but also occurring in orange and red, blue and grey. Derived from the Italian “a ventura” or by chance, the stone has come to be associated with prosperity and the diffusion of negative emotions.

Using traditional woodworking techniques, the wax positive for this pendant is turned on the lathe and cast in recycled sterling silver with a matte finish.

Sterling silver double ring chain maille style cable chain with sterling silver spring clasp and chain tag. Available lengths are 18″ and 20″. Longer chains available by custom order.
